Rex's First Giggle

While we were in Missouri for Christmas, Rex giggled for the first time. Because he has reflux, we have to give him his pill orally, by dissolving it in his cheek. He thinks it is pretty funny and this time we got him to laugh.

Merry Christmas from the Garners!

Props to my friend Lauren who posted a picture of her family "elfed". Thanks for the idea! I'd also like to thank my husband for taking that wonderful picture of himself a few months ago and not deleting it so I could find it in our photo albums and use it to make this gem.

Rex's Hand Impression

Josh and I tried a new dentist in the area and we were thrilled with the office. Not only was he a good dentist with great hygienists, but they offered to make a mold of Rex's tiny fist and they made this cute little hand sculpture. They had to stick his fist in a cup of goo that they use to make molds for bleaching trays. After about 45 seconds it was firm enough that they could remove his hand and pour in the material that makes the sculpture. We couldn't believe how much detail was captured! If anyone is interested and you live in the area, the office is called Thanksgiving Point Dental and the dentist is Dr. Losee. Highly recommended!

2 Months Old!

I can't believe my little baby boy is 2 months old! Time has just flown by. I took him to his two month doctor appointment today. He had to get a bunch of shots, which he didn't like. Neither did I. We both cried. Nevertheless, everything looks great. He's hitting all the developmental and growth benchmarks. Here are the growth stats:

Weight: 10.5 lbs - 21%
Length: 22.5 inches - 31%
Head: 16.1 inches - 73%

Yes, he's our little guy, but he's quickly catching up! The doctor made a comment about the size of his head, which seems to be catching up more quickly than the rest of his body. She just said, "it's large because he needs somewhere to keep all those brains!" Lets hope she's right.

And this is how he feels about shots

Rex's Blessing Day

Once again, we're a little late with this post. Rex was blessed on November 16th. My parents and sisters came out for the event, it was so fun to have everyone here for the special day.

Halloween

This Halloween was pretty uneventful. I took Rex into 3form (my old job) for trick-or-treating and to show him off. Then I took him down to Josh's work for their work party. He was definitely the youngest kid there! We couldn't find a preemie sized costume, but we were lucky enough to find this orange t-shirt (thanks Wal-Mart!).

We ended up staying home in the evening and answered the door for trick-or-treaters. This was interesting since every time the doorbell rang Harley, our dog, went nuts. Someone had to hold onto him while the other person held the baby and answered the door with the bowl of candy. After about 7:30pm the type of trick-or-treaters changed. No longer were we getting the cute little neighborhood children who we recognized. We started to get the teens who were much to old to be out getting candy for free from their neighbors. By 8:30 we were through dealing with the dog/baby holding/doorbell ringing so we called it quits. I'm already looking forward to next Halloween because Rex will be able to fit into a real costume!

Rub-a-dub-dub

I guess the rhyme goes, rub-a-dub-dub...three men in a tub, which sounds a little strange if you ask me. Not three men this time, just our one little guy. He got his first REAL bath and the pictures were so cute I thought they were blog worthy. (This post is a little late, the actual event took place about a week and a half ago.)

Our first attempt at bathing him was a complete disaster. Picture two nervous, first-time parents holding a slippery, naked newborn in a tub as he screams bloody murder. We didn't even take pictures that's how overwhelmed we were with the whole event. These pictures came from his second bath, which we refer to as his first REAL bath. He still cried when he got cold, but this time we came armed with a pacifier. We're hoping he enjoyed it more this time.

Welcome Rex Philip!

For those of you who have not heard or seen the pictures, we had our son last Tuesday, October 7th. He weighed 5lbs 9oz. and was 19 inches long. He is healthy and we couldn't be happier!

(I know this post is about a week late, but for those of you who have kids you'll understand that the first week can be a bit rough. Writing a post ranks just under finding time to take a shower.)

Another Baby Update

For those of you who have not heard, we have a date that our baby will arrive! Due to the high blood pressure complications my doctor has decided it would be a good idea to induce me at 37 weeks. We will go in for the induction on October 6th! We are excited and cannot believe we are about to be parents!

Baby Says Hi

So we had another ultrasound today and the technician took a 3D snapshot of our little guy. It may be hard to figure out, but he has his right hand up in front of his face and you can see his eyes and lips. He's so handsome!

The face only a mother could love

This is our dog, Harley. He is not photogenic. Not that dogs are supposed to be, but he's especially awkward looking in most photos we take of him.

I just found this picture last night (we took it about a week ago) and I laughed so hard that tears were rolling down my face. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

He's all grown up

I've been thinking it for months, but now that the time is finally here...I cannot believe my little brother is getting married! He met the girl of his dreams and they will be married in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple this Friday. I've been reflecting a little bit and it has brought up so many good memories of what it was like to grow up only 20 months apart. I have three older sisters, but they are much older than us. Andrew and I have always been the closest.

Andrew has always been the sweetest, most easy going kid I've ever met. He was one of the hardest kids to pick a fight with, but believe me...I tried my best. During one of these "fights" my mom got fed up and told Andrew that if I hit him, he could hit me back. He couldn't do it-even when given permission by mom. He never speaks unkindly of anyone and is very accepting of others.

I know he is going to be a wonderful husband to Haley and she is very lucky to have found him!

Something's brewing in the Garner home...

This post is long overdue. I get writer's block, ya know. This whole blogging thing is so much pressure. But here goes...drum roll please. Yes, I'm here to confirm the rumors...we are pregnant!

We are having a boy! So as you can imagine, I (Josh) am feeling a great and overwhelming sense of manly pride at this moment. No, we haven't picked a name and no we wouldn't tell you if we did for fear you would either love it and steal it or hate it and ruin it for us by telling us some sad story about a loser kid you grew up next to that stunk up your neighborhood. We all have or have had those kids in our lives. But fear not, the chosen name will be awesome and sound totally manly.

We are very excited and feel very blessed. Emily certainly has had to endure more than I have (understatement), although her complaining is ... uhh, nevermind. She was sick for a good majority of the first 4 months, so not fun. But she's feeling better now. She has a cute little baby belly and I've even had the privilege of feeling the little guy do sumersaults and backflips by putting my hand on her belly. He's a pretty active kid right now.

Congratulations, Josh!

I would like to take a second to brag about my husband! A couple weekends ago we went to St. George so Josh and his good buddy, Benson Metcalf, could compete in a triathlon they have been training for since January. All those mornings he got up at 5:30 and went to the gym paid off! He did great and it made me very proud that he worked so hard to get into shape so he could be competitive.

Now they are doubling their distances in preparation for the Provo Triathlon on June 21st!

Proud Parents of a Petsmart Graduate

We are pleased to announce the graduation of our dog/son, Harley. I know, two posts in a row about our dog...lame. The evidence holds true that we just aren't very exciting people right now. But hey, I'm not here to rain on Harley's proud day. During his 8 weeks at school he learned many valuable skills that will benefit him throughout his life. So far he can sit, lay down, speak, roll over, dance, leave a tempting item alone when told to, and he loves to play fetch.

Our Little Angel

While scanning the web for information on our anti social toy fox terrier we came across an interesting website. This website had page after page of t-shirts, mugs, and Christmas ornaments specifically for proud toy fox terrier owner. This was my favorite. I think we'll probably get this to hang on our tree for next year.
