Just a week ago, our little baby girl turned one! I know everyone reminisces on their baby's first year and cannot believe how quickly it went by - I definitely agree! My parents came into town for Evelyn's birthday and it was really nice to have family here.
Evelyn is our little miracle baby. After wanting a baby so badly and being unsuccessful for some time, she was a welcome blessing. We named her Evelyn after my late grandmother. I can't help but think my grandma might have had something to do with this little gal coming into our lives. She was the most mellow baby, but has turned into somewhat of a spunky little thing. We can tell she's got a little fire under that sweet exterior.
Here are some of her likes and dislikes at 1:
Here are some of her likes and dislikes at 1:
Dislikes
- snuggling
- having her clothes, diaper changed
- being put into her car seat
- falling, bumping or barely brushing the ground with any body part. The girl is a serious wimp and cries from even the tiniest injury.
- baby food - won't eat anything she can't feed herself
- Rex - he can always make her smile and sometimes I catch her just watching him, smiling
- anything soft and plush with a face (ie stuffed animals). Unfortunately, they are the only things in this house getting snuggles from Evelyn.
- PIZZA - oh man, this girl can eat when we're having pizza
- milk in a sippy cup - grins ear to ear when I get her cup out of the fridge
- apparently she also likes cupcakes (to see more, scroll down)
Opening her little people Disney castle
Getting acquainted with Raggedy Ann - a traditional 1st birthday gift from my parents
She also loved the "wheely" bug that Grandma and Grandpa Alger got her
She wasn't sure what to make of the candle and the cupcake at first, but as soon as we took the candle out and gave it to her...she figured it out REAL quick.
And she pretty much drank the frosting off the cupcake
Then she smashed the cupcake into bite-sized pieces
What I didn't get a picture of was her almost spotless tray when she was finished. She pretty much ate all the cake.
And without further ado, here's a look at her very feminine, rose-covered cake. I LOVE having a girl!
I told this to Josh a few weeks ago, and it sounded so cliche coming out
of my mouth, but Evelyn is my little ray of sunshine. When she smiles,
she wrinkles up her tiny nose and you can see all her funny teeth. Her baby giggle is contagious. She waves and says "hi" in her munchkin baby voice to random people, everywhere we go. She staggers like a drunk when she's taking just a few steps. She has squishy thighs and GIANT, kissable cheeks. My life is remarkably better because she chose me to be her Mommy. We love you, Evelyn!

Oh, that smile is to die for! The wrinkled nose just kills me. And did you make that cake?? It is gorgeous! Evelyn's 1 year old cake was more elegant than my wedding cake.
